NOUNS:

Some nouns are always used in the plural and take a plural auxiliary verb. Ex: Police, savings, innings, surroundings, premises, spectacles, goods, shoes, shorts, thanks.

Some nouns are plural in form but they are used as Singular. Ex: Physics, civics, economics, series, gymnastics, athletics, measles, mumps, politics, news.

Articles are not used before
abstract nouns, proper nouns and material nouns. When they are used
specifically, “the” is used before abstract nouns and materials nouns. “The”
can be used before proper nouns when they are used as Common nouns.

PRONOUNS:
“one of, either of, neither of, none of” etc are always followed by a plural noun or pronoun. When they are taken as the subject of the sentence, they are followed by a singular verb.
