Curriculum Vitae or Resume

CV or RESUME

The term CV is an abbreviation of the Latin word Curriculum Vitae, which is literally translated to “the course of your life”. 

CV is a very in-depth document that describes your career journey step-by-step, including all sorts of personal information. 

Resume is a short, straight-to-the-point, document created for the purpose of applying to a specific job. Unlike the CV, you should try to keep a resume as short as possible.

A resume or CV must be accompanied by cover letter or Job application letter.


What is CV/ RESUME
The word C.V means ‘course of life’ in Latin, is an in-depth document that can be laid out over two or more pages.
C.V is a written description of your work experience, educational qualifications and skills.
It is a ‘living document’ that persuades the employer why you are a good fit for the job.
It reflects the developments in ones professional career.
C.V is a marketing tool or advertisement of a person: sell your self properly.
It is a chance to write for your future. 
CV writing an art of branding and persuasion.
It shows our potential.





Why CV/ RESUME

To create a Marketing tool: first impression is the best. Informs the employer about the candidate. It sells qualities and persuades the employer to select you.

To create your big picture: A detailed snapshot of your professional and academic life.

To create impression: first impression is the best impression.



Don't ......

Don’t use CAPITALS, No spelling, grammatical mistakes.
Important info first.(Recruiters are busy). 
Keep it short, easy to read and logically ordered.(2 or 3 pages)
Don’t include your photograph, which is not professional.
Don’t use several fonts.  Use standard font size.
Avoid border lines. Do not underline.
Don’t use  SMS language/ long sentences/abbreviations.
Don’t copy from someone else.(plagiarism)
Don’t use fancy templates/designs/ cartoons/ clip art.
Don’t use low quality paper. Print on separate sheets. Use laser print.
Don’t lie. Be honest.
Avoid giving info regarding marital status, Religion, family details.
Use professional mail id, preferably with name. (No funny ID)
Don’t use one CV for all jobs.
Don’t write in sentences, use bullet points.
